Haidyn |
Haidyn is a 7-year-old girl from Cedar Rapids. She was diagnosed on Feb. 15th with Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia. Haidyn was invited to a bowling party on Saturday, February 6th. She had never bowled before without ramps or bumpers. She had done her fair share of Wii bowling, so her Mom thought she would know what to do. Shortly after the party, Haidyn said her neck was sore. Her parents watched her for the next 2 days then made an appointment with the doctor. They came away from her appointment with a knot in her neck diagnosis.
The next few days instead of getting better, the days got worse, the pain traveled and she got really weak. Her parents decided to go back to the doctor. While we were there, they started tests for Flu, Mono, Meningitis and Strep. They sent her blood down to the lab for more tests while we ruled out all the above. Haidyn's platelets were really low. The doctors decided to admit her. While we were at the hospital, the doctor that was on our floor told us she had a fellow at the University of Iowa that she went through school with. She was going to send her labs down there just in case they might find something that this hospital didn't. While we were admitted, we got an ultrasound because her tummy hurt when they pushed on it earlier. We then were sent down to x-ray right after that. When we got back up from X-ray, they were sending us via ambulance to the U of I. Upon arrival, we were told Haidyn has Cancer. Wish On A STAR is supporting Haidyn and her family during this difficult time in their lives. Haidyn, her older (and quite extraordinary) sister, and their parents live in Cedar Rapids, IA. Haidyn is a huge Hawkeye Fan—she was named after Coach Hayden Fry. Haidyn’s favorite color is pink and she loves all things princess and books. Please help us encourage Haidyn by showering her family with cards, get well wishes, and monetary support to cover the out-of-pocket expenses associated with treatment. Haidyn leaves a trail of sparkles wherever she goes. Her positive attitude is contagious. Even when she feels discouraged and tired from the fight, she never gives up. “Cancer’s got nothing on me!” is her mantra. |
